boxed heart studio is...
I apprenticed with a studio furniture and cabinetmaker shortly after completing my undergraduate work (1993 - 1995). My family has been builders for as many generations as I'm aware of. My passion, even as a kid working summers, was the finish work. The final touches. It helped knowing the importance of a quality structure and having a lifetime of best construction practices when it came time to explore a life as a cabinetmaker.
I believe strongly in the apprenticeship approach to craft. We work tirelessly to constantly improve our skills, sharpen our focus, and build better.
"better is always better"
We are diligent problem solvers. We genuinely like the people we work with – clients, designers, builders, coworkers, managers – and genuinely enjoy helping one another succeed.
We have chosen to make a living and a life in a very high touch and intimate way. The relationships we build are equal to the furniture and casework we create,
Clients trust us to build things that work and we take that seriously. Heirloom home furnishings do not have to come at the expense of the environment. We will always take every step to source materials that are local, sustainable and perform to the highest standards.
Certainly we value our time, energy, effort and eduction. Likewise, we also value these qualities in you.
We have developed a trust based budget model that we employ in all of our projects. Upon entering into a Professional Service Agreement (P.S.A.), we collectively agree on your design budget. After phase i of our P.S.A. we collectively agree on your build budget. Throughout this time we have explored and discussed the many factors that will affect your project.
We will then comense work based on the known Guaranteed Maximum Price (G.M.P.) that we established in P.S.A. phase i and ii.
